Origin of Maheshwari society :
The origin of Maheshwari Samaj is believed to be from Rajputs.Regarding this matter, there is a story in the history Kalpadrum that there is a Place named Khandela (Sikar district) in Jaipur, the king Sujatsen here had no children. The pundits told that they should go to the forest and dig under the Kalpavriksha, there they would find the statue of Mahadev. You will be blessed with a child from that idol. The king did the same and got the boon of having a son. After some time they had a son, Ratna. The king died when the prince was young. One day the prince went hunting with his bodyguards. He found a group of 16 sages there. There was a reservoir there. After hunting, the prince and his companions washed their weapons in that reservoir, due to which the water of the reservoir turned red due to blood. The sages considered the prince and his companions to be demons, so they cursed them, with the effect of which the prince and his seventy-two companions turned into stones at that very place. When the queens and the wives of the prince's companions heard this, they all started committing sati. When they started climbing the pyre, Lord Shiva appeared there and saved them from committing Sati and transformed their men from stones to humans again. But Lord Shiva ordered him to leave the Kshatriya religion and venture into business. On this the prince became a great devotee of Lord Shiva and from his companions seventy-two clans of Maheshwari community were formed.
