Gotra and Kuldevi of Khandelwal Samaj

Gotra and Kuldevi of Khandelwal Samaj

Khandelwal Samaj :

Parashuram, grandson of Maharishi Richik and son of Jagadgni, had beheaded his mother and brothers on his father's orders, as an atonement he
traveled around the earth on foot. After roaming around the entire earth, he went to the ashram of his grandfather Richik. After skillful questioning,
Parashuram narrated the story of his twenty-one Kshatriya victories to his grandfather, on hearing which Maharishi Richik became extremely sad.
He explained to his grandson Parshuram that you did not do this right because it is the duty of a Brahmin to forgive. A Brahmin becomes worthy of
glory only through forgiveness. To regain the Brahminhood that you have lost by killing Kshatriyas twenty-one times, you should perform Vishnu Yagya.

Following the orders of his grandfather, Parashurama organized Vishnu Yagya at Lohargal Tirtha situated in the picturesque valleys of Arbakdanchal
(Aravalli Mountains). In that yagya of Parashurama, Kashyap performed the function of Acharya and Vashishtha performed the function of Adhvaryu.
Bhardwaj Mansotpan Madhuchchandadi Rishis who lived on the mountain peak of Malvada (Malavanat or Malkhet) adjacent to Lohargal Teerth were Ritviks.

After the completion of the Yagya, Parashurama gave Dakshina to all the people for the Yagya with due respect and hospitality. Ritvik Madhuchchandadi
sages of the Yagya refused to accept the Dakshina of the Yagya due to which the host Parshuram became sad. Parashuram told Acharya Kashyap -
'The invited sages Madhuchchandadi do not want to take dakshina for the yagya. I consider my Yagya incomplete due to their not taking Dakshina,
hence please explain to them that they should complete my Yagya by taking Dakshina.

Acharya Kashyap called Madhuchchandadi sages to him and said – You people should take Dakshina for the Yagya because without Dakshina the Yagya
is considered incomplete. This logical statement of sage Kashyap was accepted by the sages like Madhuchchandadi. Kayashpa Maharishi informed Parashurama
that – 'Madhuchchandadi Rishi is ready to take the Dakshina for the Yagya.' At that time Parashurama had nothing left except a golden altar. He had donated
his everything. He cut the same altar into seven pieces. Then he divided it with the seven and gave one piece to each sage.

In this way, 49 sages got the 49 sections of the golden altar. But Manasopatra Madhuchchandadi Rishi were fifty in number. Therefore, when there was nothing
left to give to a sage, everyone became worried. At the same time, he received an order through Akashvani that you people should not worry. This sage will
be worshiped by these forty nine clans and his clan will be the best among these forty nine clans.

Thus, by accepting the pieces of the golden altar as alms for the sacrifice, the name of the sages like Madhuchchanda, who was born of Manasot, became
'Khandal or Khandal'. These were the sages like Madhuchchanda who became the initiators of the Khandal Brahmins or Khandelwal caste. Their descendants
became known as Khand Vipra or Khandelwal Brahmin caste in the future. According to the Reva section of the Skanda Purana, the Khandal Brahmin caste
is divided into fifty gotras.
